Community Service Project
Think Globally, Act Locally
So far this year we have focused on the questions “Who Am I?” and "What does it mean to be American?" For this assignment, you will consider the social needs of northern Sonoma County by asking the question “What can I do for my community?” The community will become a classroom and a project—you will identify a specific social need and perform community service actively addressing that need. Choose from among the many respected social service organizations in the Healdsburg-Windsor-Santa Rosa area.

Community Service: Reflection & Portfolio
Having completed your community service experience, it’s time to reflect back upon what you’ve learned by working in local preschools, elementary schools, homeless shelters, food banks, and other humanitarian organizations. To do so, you will prepare a written portfolio which meets the following requirements:
1. Portfolios must be neatly organized in a folder or binder with a table of contents.
2. Portfolios will contain your completed time card and 6 journal entries, 1 for each day of community service performed.
3. Portfolios will contain a reflective paper (2 pages minimum, typed, MLA format) which recounts your most significant challenges and experiences, and explains what you learned and how you’ve grown through this project.
4. Exemplary portfolios will also include additional evidence (e.g., photographs, documents, etc.) collected during your time performing community service.
